Fort Nelson offers a private and tranquil venue for funeral receptions, located less than two miles from Portchester Crematorium on Portsdown Hill. Its convenient location makes it a practical choice for families looking to continue the gathering after a service, while its elevated position provides views across the Hampshire countryside, Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.

Receptions are held in The Redan, formerly part of the Officers’ Mess. Built as part of the Victorian defences of Portsmouth, Fort Nelson has strong military links and is now home to the Royal Armouries’ national collection of artillery. The historic setting provides a distinctive yet peaceful backdrop for families and their guests.

The Redan can accommodate up to 80 people and provides a comfortable, private space for a buffet lunch or afternoon tea. A range of catering options and refreshments can be arranged, with a private bar also available for guests.

Our team provides a caring and considerate service throughout, helping with the arrangements so families can focus on spending time together.

There is ample free on-site parking, along with accessible facilities to help ensure guests can attend comfortably.

Whether you are looking for a simple gathering after a service or a more formal reception, Fort Nelson provides a peaceful setting where family and friends can come together, share memories and remember a loved one.
